President’s XI defeated Essequibo by an innings and 52 runs inside three days in the second round of the Guyana Cricket Board organized Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T)\ Hand-in-Hand Insurance senior 4-day inter county tournament yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
Needing 68 runs to make the President’s XI bat again, Essequibo resumed on the second innings overnight score of 126-6 and were bowled out for 141 in 47.2 overs, one hour and six minutes into the day’s play.
Kemo Paul and Keanu Harry added a further six runs to the total before off spinner Collins Butts bowled Harry for 04. Paul who timed the ball well to remain unbeaten on 24 the previous day then pushed at a delivery out side off stump and was caught by wicket keeper Jason Sinclair off left arm pacer Andre Stoll for 27 at 134-8; he stroked five fours. Leg spinner Steven Sankar wrapped up the innings by having Ricardo Peters (01) taken at the wicket and trapped Hemchand Persaud (02) leg before. Butts was the leading wicket taker with 3-20, while Stoll claimed 3-24 and Sankar 2-19.
In an invited comment coach of the Essequibo team Nandkishore Andrews stated that he looking forward to a better performance from his team going into their final round game against Berbice on Sunday. He said that he is disappointed with the lost adding that their preparation for the tournament was somewhat hampered by the rain. “I am not making any excuses for the defeat, but the batsmen need to occupy the crease for longer periods”, he added.
Scores: Essequibo 104 (Paul 22, Stoll 4-34, Daniels 3-31, Sankar 2-11) and 141 (Federicks 38, Paul 27, Butts 3-20, Stoll 3-24, Sankar 2-19) lost the President’s XI 297 (Singh 85, Sinclair 60,Ramdass 59, Williams 52, Adams 4-90, Harry 3-49, Heyliger 2-59) by an innings and 52 runs.
