The thundering sounds of galloping hoofs will resonate around the arena when the Port Mourant Turf Club stages ‘Clash of the champions’ this Sunday, December 15 and turfites are expected in their numbers to view the riveting encounters.
Three of Guyana’s leading racing entities, Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF), the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) and Shariff Business Conglomerate and Racing Stable of West Berbice, have combined to organise the event and have promised a chockfull of fun on race day.

Jockeys will be competing for over $8M in cash and other prizes and to date more than 70 entries are already registered for the event. Eight exciting races are carded for the day with the ‘A & Lower’ event leading the programme. This race will feature three of Guyana leading race horses, Score’s Even, Elle’s Vision and the fast improving ‘Settle in Seattle,’ in what is expected to be a scorcher.
The feature clash will involve the best horses out of Guyana over 6 furlongs and turfites are guaranteed an action packed encounter that nets the winner 1.2M and a trophy. Some of the horses competing in this race include the newly imported Rock Movie Star, Money in Return, Got To Go, Grande de Roja, Donut Prince, City Tune, CP Got Even, Swing Easy, Prince Charming, Who is on the Case, Force Entry, The Message, Country Armagh, Red and Lovely, Blame The Jockey, Zelick, and Rena Del Café.
The other races on the day will also include the event for 3yrs old which will feature Guyana and West Indies Bred horses, the E and Lower event, the Two Years old encounter, the G1and Lower event, the D3 and Lower for maiden horses and the J, K and L class event.
So far most of the top stables are rounding out preparation for the big day and the Jumbo Jet Stable is expected to lead the way with over 12 entries followed by the Shariff Racing Stable with nine. Other participating stables include Habibulla, Colin Elcock’s Delmur, P&P Syndicate, Jagdeo’s, Asrafalli’s, Simple Royal, Marcel Crawford’s, Night Eyes, Mahaicony, Jagroop and Jagmohan, Bacchus, Sukdeo, Ghansham Singh, Chico Singh and Lenny Singh. Most of these entities will be fielding multiple entries.
There will also be special prizes for outstanding individual performers including top jockey, best trainer and most successful stable. These categories are sponsored by Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
Several other corporate entities have contributed to the success of the meet including Atlantic Marine Supply Inc, Tulsie Persaud Limited, Buffalo Energy Drink, Phagoo General Store, Southland Incorporated, John Dere Company, Kit Scipio of USA, Jai Sign, Khanai’s Electrical, Fazal Habubulla, Banks DIH Limited, Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing Stables, Dequan Shipping, Kris Jagdeo Construction, Lekeram ‘Buddy’ Sukhdeo, Romell Jagroop Construction and racing stables, Customs Racing Stable and family, Businessman Shano Seenarine, Attorney at law R C Poonai, Delmur Shipping Company, Balram and Lenny Singh and family.
The event will be conducted under the aides of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) and the relevant rules will apply.
