Skipper Vishal Singh and Ryan Ramdass stroked half centuries as the President’s XI grabbed first innings points from Essequibo when the second round of the Guyana Cricket Board organised Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), Hand-in-Hand Insurance senior Inter County four-day tournament got under way yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
At stumps, the President’s XI, in reply to Essequibo’s first innings total of 104 all out are 121-4 with Singh unbeaten on 52 and Shaquille Williams on 01.
The President’s XI response got off to a bad start when pacer Dillon Heyliger removed Robin Bacchus (00) and Kemo Paul sent back Dominic Ricky (00) with the score on 02, but Singh and Ramdass added a century partnership for the third wicket with level headed batting on an unpredictable pitch to steady the innings.
Ramdass who brought up his fifty off 58 balls slammed six four’s before he played back to a delivery that kept low and was trapped in front by left arm spinner Anthony Adams for 59. Adams who has so far taken 2-28 also sent back Seon Hetymer (07) in similar fashion just before the close; Paul has 1-12 and Heyliger 1-34.
Earlier Essequibo were bowled out in 33.3 overs, batting first. Stoll bowled opener Royan Federicks (04) who opted not to play at one that came back from outside off stump while Seon Daniels had Eaknauth Persaud (01) caught behind leaving Essequibo at 7-2.
Daniels got into the act once again by removing Heyliger (06) and Adams (01) before Stoll trapped Kevon Boodie (18) LBW at 38-5. Paul and Parmesh Parsotam then attempted to repair the early damage with a sixth wicket partnership of 37.
Paul pulled Daniels over mid wicket for six before dancing down the pitch and smashed him back over his head for another maximum while Parsotam flicked the said bowler to the mid wicket fence.
However off spinner Shaquille Williams accounted for Paul just before lunch for 22 (1×4 2×6); he faced 34 deliveries. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals after
the break with Stoll removing Parsotam (19) and Mark Gonsalves (02) while Steven Sankar dismissed Ricardo Peters (09) and Keano Harry (09) leaving Hemchand Persaud not out on 02.
Essequibo were bowled out 57 minutes after lunch, Stoll was the pick of the bowlers with 4-34, while Daniels claimed 3-31, Sankar 2-11 and Williams 1-6.
