After breaking into a snackette to eat and drink to his heart’s content, a thief was caught red-handed at around 21:00 hrs yesterday while trying to escape with a quantity of goods.
Amanda Pereira said that her snackette, located on the Houston, East Bank Demerara waterfront, has been broken into about four times.
Because of this, Pereira said that she would make steady checks to ensure that everything is intact.
Last evening, accompanied by her boyfriend, she made one such check and discovered a man behind the snackette packing boxes of goods on a bicycle.
Upon seeing the man, the boyfriend, Ronald Cappell said he held the thief at gunpoint while Pereira went for the police.
Cappell said that upon inspection of the stall, it was clear that the thief ate a quantity of sweet biscuits and drank a few expensive energy drinks before packing up another set of goodies to take away.
This newspaper spoke with the bandit who identified himself as Sitaram Singh of Broad Street, Montrose.
