Time has flown and it seems as only yesterday that the administrators of the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club have staged their Xmas race meeting at their Bush Lot Farm Corentyne, Berbice location. In fact, one year has elapsed and turfites are getting ready for similar excitement when that entity stages a similar event at the same venue on Boxing Day, Thursday December 26 next.
This time there will be 8 exciting races with millions of dollars at stake. The feature event will be contested among the 3 year old West Indian maiden and Guyanese bred horses over a distance of one mile. The winner and second place finisher will ride off with $600,000 and $500,000 respectively with lucrative prizes up to the 4th place finisher. The race among horses in the A & Lower category will also be contested over one mile with similar prizes for jockeys coming in first and second
There will also be 4 races, each over a distance of 6 furlongs in the J & Lower, J3 & K, G I & Lower, the D3 Maiden and E Lower and the 2 years old. These winners will also pocket lucrative purses.
The event is conducted under the aegis of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and all rules will apply. Owners of horses are reminded that they must pay at least $5,000 for each horse at the time of entry otherwise the horses’ names would not appear on the official programme thus debarring the horses’ participation. Entries close on Sunday, December 15 and late entry will not be accepted.
Horses can also be registered with Roopnarine Matadial (Shine 325-3192), Ivan Dipnarine (331-0316), Justice-Kennard (623-7609, 225-4818/226-1399), Isabella Barton (693-7812) or Dennis Deroop 325-3301(609-9143).
Several entities have contributed towards the success of the programme including DDL, Ansa Mcal Trading Co, Republic Bank, Neal & Massy (Guyana) Ltd, Mohamed’s Enterprise, Winston & George Baijnauth – Sawmillers, Digicel, Pomeroon Oil Mill, Nand Persaud & Co, Berbice Bridge Co. Inc, Gobin Agri Spares Center, Goodwood & Horse Shoe Racing Services, N.
