All roads lead to the Georgetown Football Club Ground this afternoon when the 24th edition of the K&S Secondary School Football Championships gets underway at the Georgetown Football Club Ground (GFC) and 24 participating teams of slickly dressed schoolchildren are expected to conform to the ceremonial march past where Minister of Culture Youth & Sport, Frank Anthony will take the salute before delivering the keynote address.
Activities get underway at 15:00hrs and several other dignitaries are expected to deliver brief remarks including President of the G.F.F, Christopher Matthias, Director of K&S, Kashif Mohamed and a representative of one of the major sponsors, Ansa McAl Trading.
Following the official opening ceremony, two exciting matches are scheduled to be played. Wisburg Secondary will take on East Ruimveldt Secondary in the first encounter while Ann’s Grove Secondary will clash with Christ Church Secondary just afterwards.
All school children will be permitted to view the games free of charge up until the semifinals and even then, the organizers are attempting to retain this arrangement for the final phase of the competition.
The teams will be easily recognized after Mishal’s For Kids & More of Ogle Airstrip Road ECD donated an equivalent number of name boards to the K&S Entertainment group. Participating schools will be drawn from Linden (4), West Bank Demerara (4), Georgetown (8), East Coast Demerara (4), East Bank Demerara (2), Mazaruni and Berbice (1 apiece).
