– signals early preparations for the new season
Despite not having the kind of success at the final leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC), local Group 2B champion Afraz Allie speaking with Kaieteur Sport recently said his 2013 performance has left him anxious and motivated ahead of the 2014 season.
Allie, who drives a Toyta Starlet, managed to qualify second on the grid alongside Barbados’ Kurt Thompson, but suffered an early setback in the opening race due to being hit by the Barbadian resulting in him spinning and in the process losing the top spot after the first turn.
“I qualified second to Kurt Thompson on the grid….the only 2 cars to qualify in the 37 seconds bracket and led the race into the first corner before being hit by Kurt into a spin that caused me to restart the race from almost half lap down, but was still able to finish on the second,” Allie said.
He pointed out that the car subsequently developed a problem with the gearbox that was bought specifically for the Meet and that hampered their chances of winning.
“The car itself was good it had the power needed, but couldn’t convert it because the gearbox broke the main power gear, nevertheless we continued the race and managed to score valuable points for Guyana which ended with us winning the Country title.”
Allie, who won the Champion Driver Award for 2013 in the Group 2B for outstanding work leading the points by a wide margin, informed that preparations are already being made for next year’s championship and he expects the car to gain even more progress by then.
“We are starting very early to work on the car’s development for 2014 CMRC, the car is in good shape and it’s just a matter of changing a few parts, before we commence testing,” Allie mentioned.
The reigning champion extended gratitude to the following sponsors for their support over the years and they include: Banks DIH – R1 White Ice, Mohamed’s Enterprise, ReadyMix Concrete Limited, Classic Printing Supplies, Mike’s Copy Centre, Prem’s Electrical, Martina’s Cambio, Cellphonix, Clifton Auto Spares and General Store, Tulshi Machine Shop, Fullworks Motor Spares, Ramchand Wrecker Service, the entire Team and his family who according to him made the biggest contribution by allowing him the extra time to invest in the car, all of which contributed to make the year a successful one.
