-Four games decided by penalty kicks
Eight more matches are slated for this evening when the Georgetown segment of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal Competition continues, at the Burnham Court on Middle and Carmichael Streets, starting at 19:00 hrs.
In the opening encounter, Cross Street take on East Front Road and that will be followed by the clash between Albouystown ‘A’ and Sophia South.
In the next game, defending champions Leopold Street will look to rebound following an opening night loss when they face Costello Housing Scheme, before Island AllStar square off against West Front Road.
After the break, Kingston opposes South Ruimveldt, before Norton Street East tackles Queen Street of Tiger Bay and this encounter will precede the clash between Globe Yard and Albouystown ‘B’ with the Hope Street of Tiger Bay and California Square engagement bringing the curtains down on the night’s action.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday night at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac, four games had to be decided by penalty kicks signalling the real battle among teams to reach the knockout phase has started.
In the opening game of the night, North Sophia beat Festival City 3-1 on penalty kicks after both teams failed to score in regulation time.
National champions Back Circle looked way below their best and suffered the consquences when they went down to a solid looking North East La Penitence 3-0.
In the next game, clearly the most exciting of the evening Stevedore Housing Scheme scraped past Norton Street 5-4 on sudden death penalty kicks from the halfway line after a pulsating 3-3 draw in regulation time.
Another shootout was required in the Berlin Massive versus North-Last Entrance which the former won 3-2 after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
