Dec 05, 2013 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
Permit me to reply to a letter by Mr. Randolph Eleazar, published in KN 04.12.2013, under the bold caption “Minister Nandlall should resign”.
In the letter, Mr. Eleazar alleges that I voted in support of the Local Government Commission Bill and then advised the President that it is unconstitutional.
On both counts he is wrong.
I neither voted on the Local Government Commission Bill, nor advised the President that it is unconstitutional. Indeed, the Local Government Commission Bill was assented to by His Excellency, President Ramotar. A simple phone call to the Parliament Office could have furnished this information and avoid Mr. Eleazar grave public embarrassment. In any event, most of the aforementioned information was widely publicised in the media. How it escaped the writer, I am unsure.
Mr. Eleazar’s next question posed to me, concerns the route which a Bill travels after it is passed by the National Assembly but before it reaches the President. He alleges that it is sent by the Clerk of the National Assembly to the Attorney-General. Again, he is wrong. I have written profusely on this issue. Unsurprisingly, my views have eluded Mr. Eleazar. I have neither the time nor the inclination to repeat myself on this matter.
Mr. Editor, I respectfully appeal to you to review your editorial policy in respect of letters which you receive for publication. I suggest you discontinue “the rubbish in rubbish out” policy which is obviously now in place.
Anil Nandlall
