Dear Editor,
It is with much interest that I read of a proposal to develop the Bourda and Guyana Football Club grounds.
Guyanese would know that these two grounds are beyond priceless for the role they played in Guyana’s sports. Who can forget the great matches involving the Clive Lloyds, Kalicharrans, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Rohan Kanhai? The nearby football club has many bruising encounters that have forever been etched in the minds of sports lovers.
With the coming of the Providence stadium, we all saw the decline of two grounds and their facilities to the point that it is a pain to see it now.
To learn now that a proposal is on the table for the development of the two grounds is heartening.
I am more than convinced that Guyana would be happy to see moves, and tangible ones at that, to develop the grounds.
I do believe that Government should therefore, as the issue is so close to the hearts of Guyanese, to start the process moving.
I do humbly suggest that we can invite expressions of interest publicly for investors to make proposals.
Let the process be open and in a transparent manner to the public. In that way there can be no questions about the project when it is awarded.
I am sure that the many who have raised objections over the deal with New GPC would be more than glad to contribute to something so meaningful. We have many businesses here that have monies but would like to have a chance. New GPC can be afforded the opportunity to participate in such a transparent process.
Last week’s leaking of the proposal by New GPC has opened our eyes to the possibilities that we have to start thinking differently.
As such, let us endeavor not to stop development of this country. Rather, let us start thinking out of the box.
