The Guyana Beverage Company Inc. (GBCI) remains committed to the development of sports. Yesterday at the company’s head office at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, the entity under the Busta soft drink brand has once again committed to the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Champion of Champions and the Enterprise Sports Club limited overs cricket tournaments.
The Champion of Champions 50-overs competition which has been undertaken at a cost of $1.5M has developed into one of the premier competitions in the Ancient County is expected to start shortly. It is also being sanctioned and co-organised by the Berbice Cricket Board as part of their developmental programme.

Speaking at the launching, RHTY&SC CEO/Secretary, Hilbert Foster stated that this year’s tournament would be extra special since it will be the 10th edition, adding that this shows the remarkable bond between the two entities.
The tournament will be played between the top eight teams in Berbice; West Berbice, Blairmont Community Centre, Universal Solutions Bermine, Albion Community Centre, Young Warriors Universal DVD, Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets, Port Mourant Karibee Rice and Upper Corentyne.
The winning team will receive $100,000 and a trophy, the runner up $50,000 and a trophy and the man-of-the-match in the final $15,000 and a trophy. The final will be broadcasted live on NCN Radio.
Foster indicated that no form of indiscipline would be tolerated and any team that brings the game into disrepute will be thrown out of the competition and would not be selected to play in future tournaments. He stated that only players who are registered with clubs for 2013 will be allowed to play.
He expressed gratitude to the GBCI for their support and also lauded General Manager Robert Selman and Marketing Manager Shameeza Yadram for their contribution giving the assurance that the tournament will be organised and played at the highest standard.
The first round will see Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets facing Upper Corentyne at the Area ‘H’ ground; Albion Community Centre hosting West Berbice; Young Warriors clashing with Blairmont Community Centre at Cumberland and Universal Solutions Bermine traveling to Port Mourant.
Meanwhile, President of the Enterprise Busta Sports Club (EBSC) Karran Ramdhoon indicated that this the sixth year the GBCI has sponsored their T20 tournament and thanked them for the input.

He stated that the club has produced a number of talented players over the years including Kamesh Yadram, Zaheer Mohamed and Rajendra Chandrika. Sixteen teams are expected to battle for supremacy and among them are Lusignan, Enterprise, Buxton, Ogle, Enmore, Golden Grove, Unity and Strathaven.
Managing Director of Guyana Beverage Company, Robert Selman pointed out that cricket is one of the major sports in Berbice and this is the company’s way of giving back to the community. He said that the RHTY&SC is one of the better organised clubs in Guyana while Enterprise SC has managed to keep the youths off the street which is the aim of the company stating that they are happy to sponsor both tournaments.
He informed that the Enterprise competition has been sponsored to a tune of just over $700,000.
