Prisoner escapes from GPHC…Police fire four shots, damage GPHC’s property
A prisoner, who was under police guard, nursing injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), managed to make good his escape yesterday.

The prisoner whose name was given as Edgar Blackman of Houston, East Bank Demerara, darted to his freedom around 15:50 hrs yesterday after requesting to go to the washroom.
Blackman was hospitalized at the health institution last Tuesday after he was beaten by Sophia residents for grabbing a woman’s laptop on Dennis Street, Sophia.
According to reports, Blackman asked the police officer who was guarding him to use the washroom but instead used the opportunity to escape.
He ran from the Male Surgical Ward to the Intensive Care Unit.
While running down the hospital steps, (the one leading to the pharmacy), the police officer fired four shots at the prisoner but missed.
The gunshots had security guards at the health institutions running for cover and Blackman used that opportunity to scale the fence and escape through East Street.
The police under whose guard Blackman escaped, is under police guard at Brickdam Police Station
