Dear Mr. Editor,
Kindly permit me the opportunity to commend Mr. Elroy Stephney for his candid expression of serious concerns regarding the administration of cricket in Essequibo.
He has certainly highlighted a major deficiency in the quality and methodology of selecting players to represent Essequibo.
One must remember that it is this very Essequibo Board alone that elected the present Guyana Cricket Board into office.
The fact that no development of cricket is taking place in the Cinderella County must send a loud signal that:
1. Funds are not being sent to the ECB, for development of cricket.
2. If funds are sent to the ECB for cricket development, they are either used for personal or other purposes.
3. Apparently this is not a cause for concern to the current ECB who seems extremely comfortable with the present state of affairs.
Since none of the WICB development funds referred to by the WICB Mr. CEO, Muirhead (Wed 27th Stabroek News) have reached to the Berbice, East Coast or Georgetown Cricket administrations, which areas are benefitting from the annual US500,000 grant? Certainly not Essequibo, West Demerara nor East Bank Demerara, for there is no cricket development activity therein.
The West Indies Cricket Board must explain why they continue to disburse development funds to a group that obviously spends the funds on something rather than cricket development. Also the GCB must explain what they have done with development funds disbursed by WICB to Guyana for the past four (4) years.
This entire fiasco needs to be investigated and make public.
