Lojo Brazilian Electronics, which is situated in Mark Interior Communications Building Light Street, Bourda has thrown their support behind the inaugural Chico Kashif and Shanghai schools football tournament which is set to commence next month with twenty four teams battling for superiority.
Ann Pinmcino of Lojo Brazilian Electronics yesterday handed over a quantity of uniforms and balls to the organisers. She said they are pleased to be associated with the tournament, while K and S Director Aubrey Shanghai Major thanked the entity for their support.
The teams which are being drawn from across Guyana will battle in the “knockout” tournament that starts on December 8 and concludes on January 1 at the Guyana National Stadium.
The schools were selected based on their performance in the annual Digicel Schools Football tournament and the prizes will mirror that of the previous senior Kashif and Shanghai competitions.
The winning school will receive $1.2M, 75% of which must go towards a sports oriented project identified by the school. The runner up will collect $750,000, third place $500,000 and fourth place $250,000; 25% of it must go to a project of the school’s choice.
The Most Valuable player (MVP) will took home a Laptop and will also get the opportunity to have a one month stint with a team in the Trinidad and Tobago Professional League.
The participating teams are: Linden-Christianburg Wismar Secondary, Wisburg Secondary, New Silver City and McKenzie High School. West Demerara–Leonora, Stewartville, Uitvlugt and Patenia Secondary. Georgetown – St George’s, Lodge, East Ruimveldt, North Georgetown, Queens College, Dolphin, Christ Church and Queenstown Secondary. East Coast – Bladen Hall, President College, Ann’s Grove and Annadale Secondary. Berbice – Ash Education Trust. East Bank – Covent Garden and Friendship Secondary. Region#7 – Waramadong Secondary.
