The GT&T/Hand-in-Hand four-day senior Inter County cricket competition scheduled to commence this week has been postponed indefinitely due to heavy rain which has resulted in flooding in the City and along parts of the Coastland.
The competition, involving four teams including a President’s X1 and the three County teams, is being used as a yardstick to select Guyana’s team for next year’s Regional 50 overs and First Class competitions.
First round matches were scheduled for DCC in the city and Enmore on the East Coast. DCC was completely under water yesterday afternoon while the Enmore ground was waterlogged. With more rain expected and the Christmas holidays approaching, it is likely that the competition could be played delayed until next year.
