The Georgetown Public Hospital at approximately 18:00 hours yesterday, lit up its first Christmas tree which they strategically placed in the compound of the Maternity Ward.
The tree was donated by Ms. Tracey Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Lottery Company.
The steel tree is hooked into the ground with iron spirals and was selected for the hospital’s compound as it would withstand the rainy conditions that normally come with the December-January period.
During her address, Ms. Lewis said, “the Christmas tree is dedicated to the patients of the Georgetown Hospital as well as the doctors and nurses who work so tirelessly to bring ill patients back to good health.”
“There is a special feeling when we see a Christmas tree; it’s as if each one of those twinkling lights sends a new spirit of love, hope and joy through our hearts…Christmas is a time for giving and as we reach out to family and friends, I hope we’ll also open our hearts to those who are lonely and in need, the sick, the old and the less fortunate.”
Though drizzles prevented the children from the pediatric ward from touching the tree which brought a huge smile to their face, the CEO of the hospital, Mr. Michael Khan along with Ms. Lewis gave them sweet treats as the rest of the crowd sang Christmas carols.
