The curtains came down on this year’s edition of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) National Short Course Championships on Sunday last at the Castellani Swimming Pool with the exciting 50m freestyle events.
Splashing his way to a new record in the 8 and Under category was Sliver Shark Aquatic Swim Club’s (SSASC) Leon Seaton who replaced his own record of 35.20 set on the 7th of July this year with a new standard of 35.16. Winning the female race in the same category was Riley Nurse (Dorado Speed Swim Club) in 41.34.

The closet race was between arch rivals and Dorado Speed Swim Club (DSSC) members, Hannibal Gaskin and Omar Adams. The duo, members of Guyana’s team to the inaugural South American Youth Games held in Lima, Peru in September, swam with energy from start to finish but it was Gaskin who prevailed by a slim margin when the water settled.
