Nov 25, 2013 Letters
Dear Editor,
I refer to the recent letter “Are justice and morality broken in Guyana?”
By Selwin Asafa George in your issue of November 23rd 2013, and like the writer, I wondered at the lack of publicity and open outrage at the magistrate’s decision. The media, the politicians and the protestors seemed stunned that they could not find their voices to speak up, nor their legs to walk in protest.
Where is the GHRA?
Is everybody away or on leave?
Here in Region 11, I had my own discussions over drinks and camaraderie with my old timers, and all of us are in utter amazement at this event.
We concluded that:
a) a lot must have gone on behind the scenes and
(b) the code of silence has to be kept out of great fear.
Editor, I feel that I should pose some questions to you and that hopefully you could get the answers from your legal personnel and append it to my letter. The questions are:
(1) Could a charge be laid by the police against the shooter for discharging a gun in a public place?
(2) Could the shooter be required to surrender the gun?
(3) Could the gun permit be revoked due to the act of discharging the gun in a public place?
(4) Could the video be used to support the above?
