Action in the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) Second International Invitational Club Festival will hit the home straight today when the semi finals and final are contested at the National Gymnasium.
Following two days of preliminary action, Trinidad and Tobago’s Big Sepos, Suriname’s Yelyco along with locals club’s Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC) and Young Achievers have advanced to the semi finals, game one will serve off from 11:00hrs today.
The second game of the three game female Goodwill series between Suriname’s Yelyco and Guyana Vanguard saw the local side going down yet again, 25-11 25-17 having lost on the opening night, Friday, 25-17, 25-16. The third and final game will be played today and the local side would be aiming to salvage some pride by turning the tables on the visitors.
Yet again, the locals were embarrassed when the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) delivered a double dose of black out during the game between Yelyco and Young Achievers with the score at 19-9 in favour of Yelyco.
When power was restored, Yelyco went on to win the set 25-12 as well as the second but not before an epic fight by Achievers, it ended 29-27 in favour of the Suriname
side.
GPL also visited the venue on the opening night (Friday) much to the disgust of the visiting teams and even the locals. The officials are hoping that there will not be any more power outages on today’s final day.
Other results from yesterday saw Big Sepos beating the Guyana Defence Force 25-16, 25-11; PMTC after losing the first set to Young Achievers 18-25, clawed their way back to beat Achievers 25-19, 15-9.
Yelyco took care of GDF 25-10, 25-12; Big Sepos defeated Young Achievers 25-23, 25-11 and Yelyco got past PMTC 25-16, 25-16.
The presentation of prizes will also be held this evening from 19:00hrs.
