The decomposing remains of a man, wrapped in a tarpaulin, were discovered early yesterday morning in the vicinity of Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt.
Kaieteur News was told that the body was discovered by a community policeman who was out walking early. Police were immediately summoned to the location.
The police in a statement confirmed that they are “investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a so far unidentified man whose body was found at about 05:20h today (yesterday) November 21, 2013, on the roadway at Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt, wrapped up in a tarpaulin. The body bore suspected marks of violence.
The victim is of African ethnic origin, appears to be in his late forties, brown complexion, thin built, about 5’ 8″ in height, Rastafarian hairstyle, and clad in a multi coloured vest and a green camouflaged ¾ pants.
The body is at the Lyken Funeral Home.
Investigators have speculated that the man was beaten and his body had been dumped there. Persons in the area have also suggested this may have been what occurred. One female resident who lives a short distance away speculated that the body was probably dumped overnight.
“Whoever killed him had to dump the body there during the night, because no one noticed that tarpaulin there before,” the woman said.
Up to press time no one had gone to the funeral parlour to identify the body.
