When first round play in the Ramcharitar Construction Services First Division 50 overs knock-out competition continued on Saturday last, recording convincing wins were Albion Community Centre and Universal Solutions Bermine which saw them advancing to the 2nd round to join Port Mourant Karibee Rice, Police and West Berbice.
Playing at Blairmont, Albion Community Centre hammered Blairmont Community Centre by 127 runs in a match which was reduced to 40 overs-a-side due to rain. Albion, sent in to take first strike, lost Sewnarine Chattergoon for 38 and were 82 for 3 but benefitted from a 59 run fourth wicket stand between Jonathan Foo and Guyana wicket-keeper-batsman Anthony Bramble.
Foo fell for 60 but Bramble continued the fight with Devendra Bishoo, the two adding a further 80 for the fifth wicket before Bramble went for 37. Albion ended on 221 for 6 in their 40 overs, Bishoo was unbeaten on 60.
Leg spinner Kevin Jawahir took 2 for 47 from 8 overs for Blairmont who in reply were pegged back by off spinner Veerapen Permaul, who took the first three wickets to leave them at 25 for 3. Leon Johnson and Nick Ramsaroop put on 32 for the fourth wicket but Johnson fell for 34 to off spinner Sharaz Ramcharran.
Left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie picked up two quick wickets further reducing Blairmont to 72 for 6. Bishoo joined the party and grabbed three wickets in quick succession including Ramsaroop for 32 and Blairmont were all out for 94.
Bishoo ended with 3 for 24 from 3 overs, Permaul 3 for 27 from 8 and Motie 2 for 17 from 2.
Over at Edinburgh, Universal Solutions Bermine pummeled Edinburgh by 8 wickets. With the match starting late due to a disorganized Edinburgh having to round up their team from around the village, Edinburgh won the toss, batted first and were bowled out for 79 in 25.1 overs.
Deonarine Seepersaud top scored with 20. Off spinner Devon Clements was the leading wicket taker with took 3 for 8 from 6.2 overs, Romario Shepherd had 3 for 35 from 7 overs and Eugene La Fleur 2 for 15 from 6 overs.
Universal Solutions Bermine hit off the runs without much bother reaching 81 for 2 in just 10 overs. The sixth first round match between Bush Lot Rising Star and Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets will be played on Saturday at Bush Lot, West Berbice. Second round action will start this weekend.
