Hamza Eastman of District 11 (North Georgetown) pedaled his way to victory in the Boys Open 40 km Cycle Road Race when the National Schools Cycling Championships got under way yesterday.
The race began with 32 starters from Liliendaal and proceeded to Belfield before returning to the starting point for the finish. Eastman out sprinted Paul De Nobrega of District 13 South Georgetown in a tense finish; both riders clocked One Hour Three Minutes 27 Seconds.
Alanzo Ambrose of District 11 placed third in a time of One Hour Five Minutes 6 Seconds. Silvio Innis, Richard Alex and Michael Anthony of District 10 Upper Demerara\Kwakwani completed the top six.
Toshawanna Doris of District 11 won the 25 km in the Girls’ category which started from Liliendaal and progressed to Bladen Hall before returning to the starting point. She was timed at 55 Minutes and One Second to finish ahead of Marcia Dick of District 15 New Amsterdam who also finished in 55:01. Crystal Lambert of District 6 Corentyne took bronze in 58 minutes and 28 seconds while her teammates Roxanne Gittens and Deancea Welch finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Okel Samuels of District 4 East Coast Demerara took the sixth spot, Mian Mc Pherson
and Jasmin Louisy ended in seventh and eight positions respectively. The race commenced with 14 starters.
