With the fifth and final stage of this year’s Ministry of Health/Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport/Guyana Cycling Federation cycle Road Race set for today from Linden to the Capitol City, three new category champions are set to be crowned.
Team Coco’s Raynauth Jeffrey who won yesterday’s 67-mile fourth stage in the Cinderella County of Essequibo to follow up his first stage win in Berbice has maintained the overall lead going into today’s final stage.
Trailing Jeffrey 54 Seconds back in 2nd place in Roraima Bikers Club Alonzo Greaves. Another Team Coco’s rider, Barbadian Darren Matthews (1Min 14Sec), Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club Godfrey Pollydore (1 Min 35 Sec), Continental Cycle Club Geron Williams (1 Min 38 Sec), United Bike Shop Orville Hinds (3 Min 2 Sec), Paul De Nobrega (3 Min 26 Sec), Team Coco’s Junior Niles (3 Min 59 Sec), Carlton Wheelers CC Robin Persaud (4 Min 1 Sec) and defending champion Jaime Ramirez of Team Coco’s (4 Min 9 Sec) are the other riders trailing Jeffrey for the title.
Jeffrey took care of the experienced field in Essequibo yesterday in Two Hours 29 Minutes 55 Seconds, moving off in Supenaam, proceeding to Charity before returning to Suddie for the finish.
Greaves was a close second in Two Hours 30 Minutes 06 Seconds the same time as the third placed Hinds. Pollydore followed next with Matthews and Williams fifth and sixth.
Junior, Shaquille Agard of the Linden Bauxite Flyers Cycle Club maintained his lead going into yesterday’s fourth stage as did Niles in the veteran category. The lone female Naomi Singh did not complete yesterday’s fourth stage.
An explosive final stage is in the making which will see the respective teams going after the leaders as they seek to outdo each other in seeking the top spot.
The presentation of prizes will follow immediately after the race at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
