– Reported misrepresentations of the Osman led Natural Globe Incorporation should immediately prohibit them from acquiring a contract- GTUC
The Guyana Trades Union Congress (GTUC) is calling on members of the public to speak out against “white collar criminals.”
It is upon this platform that the Alliance said it wishes to bring to the spotlight, the Natural Globe Incorporation which is led by Mohamed Osman.
The Congress asserted that based on the reported misrepresentations of the Osman led Natural Globe Incorporation, it should immediately prohibit them from acquiring a contract for the Waste Recycling Project and future government contracts, as it violates the framework of public accountability.
It noted too that the attempts by Local Government Minister, Ganga Persaud to represent the Guyana Registered version of Natural Globe Incorporation should be seen as trying to cover up the failure of his Ministry and an open act by Mohammed Osman, Adrianna Webster and Imzamam Osman to either front or perpetuate business fraud.
This, the Union posited, is a blatant act of mismanagement and financial impropriety.
They also strongly urged for an investigation to be launched into Persaud’s Ministry due to its disregard for public finances.
“Signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with an investor with a shady, inexperienced, hastily-put-together organization, reeking of distortions, entails questionable acts and intentions of the parties involved. Also, the actions of the daughter of the Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Ms. Webster, suggest that there is a need for ethical review of government business practices and awarding of tenders. The issue of awarding contracts to family and friends of Government officials and politicians must undergo serious scrutiny and cease immediately,” the Union said.
GTUC is also calling on the Members of Parliament to exercise their powers to ensure that taxpayers’ monies are strictly accounted for and used for the benefit of all Guyanese.
It said that Government’s obsession to have Cabinet retain a no-clause objection in awarding contracts cannot be viewed in isolation to the continued corruption and public thievery which this nation is being subjected to.
The Union said that retaining a no-clause objection means, that any Minister, at any time, in this or any future government, under any political party, can override a decision to ensure financial probity.
It then reiterated its position for the Public Procurement Commission to be established immediately, as it reminded that the commission and other constitutional bodies help manage our economy and improve government accountability.
‘GTUC remains deeply concerned that the rape of the Guyana coffers and public thievery that this nation experienced under Bharrat Jagdeo is continuing unabated under President Donald Ramotar,” the trade union body said in a release
