With the Guyana Police Force (GPF) holding a 46-point lead, the Inter-Service Annual Athletics Championships (ISAAC) will conclude today at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary with the march-pass at 1pm and the competition beginning at 14:00hrs.
At the end of the second day of competition on Wednesday, the Police were ahead on 245 points with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) trailing on 199 points as the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) was third on 32 points. The Guyana Prison Service (GPS) and City Constabulary occupied fourth with 22 points apiece.
The Armed Forces will conclude their three-day athletics battle today at the Police Sports Club Ground at Eve Leary.
While it is a fact that they are ahead, the Police will know that they are not yet safe, having had similar leads in the past, as early as in 2011, when they held the lead heading into the final day of competition and was eventually overtaken. The Police have not won the ISAAC title since 2010; they tied with the soldiers last year.
Some of the best athletic rivalries will become reality today as Guyana’s best female sprinter at the moment, 18-year-old Alita Moore says farewell to Guyana in the women’s 100m and 200m races. Moore will lead the Police in the events. Moore is set to take up an Athletics Scholarship at ASA College, New York, United States of America.
Her nearest rivalry in the sprint events will come from the ever-smooth former national junior sprinter, GDF’s Letitia Myles. The two top sprinters will clash in the marquee women’s sprint events today.
In addition, Police’s Winston George will come up against GDF’s Patrick King and Davin Fraser in the 400m men. George will also run the 200m. Both the GDF and GPF have already made what is a five team competition into a dual battle.
