At age 21 she has already been riding competitively for quite some years having started
since she was 13 and this is the second five-stage National Cycling event for talented Naiomi Singh.
Yesterday, after the lone female participant rode in with the bunch in the first stage of the seventh edition of Ministry of Health/Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport/Guyana Cycling Federation ‘Ride for Life’ Five-Stage Cycle Road Race in Berbice as one of the 57 riders to finish the grueling event of 46.6 miles.
She then, as she did last year, also completed the second stage from Rosignol to Carifesta Avenue over 60.4 miles and says her biggest challenge is now finishing the only stage she did not complete last, the Linden Hills.
“I am looking to finish the Essequibo and Linden legs. Last year I struggled climbing the Hills on the Linden Highway cause I don’t train up there and my legs got tired,” Singh said.
Singh, who has successfully dominated at the Inter-Guiana Games level last year disclosed that now that she has attained the age of qualification for the three-stage and five-stage she feels it’s an honor to be the only female riding in those races. (Sean Devers)
