Dear Editor,
I wish to once again send out a call to the Ministry of Home Affairs along with the Guyana Police Force to review the licences of all firearm owners. I did this letter five years ago, and to date have not see any intervention.
I know of several licenced firearm owners who brandish their weapons in public places, threaten people to shoot them when in argument, and possess uneven tempers. Some licence owners are also too old to carry a firearm, while some are physically impaired.
I do really think that one must pass a medical check-up to become the holder of a firearm licence.
Similar situation goes for driver’s licences. Too many drivers are drinking and speeding on the major roadways of Guyana.
Lots of these drivers are either too young or acquire there licences under questionable means.
I am looking forward for some changes and a better year ahead.
