Two men, Demsrick Griffith, 19, called ‘Police’, of New Area East Canfield, East Canje and Kevin Dhanpat, 19, called ‘Kelly’ also of New Area East Canfield were each jailed for three years by Magistrate Sherdel Issaacs-Marcus.
They appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to a charge of break and enter and larceny.
A third man, Vishal Ramlochan, pleaded not guilty and was placed on $25,000 bail. He will have to return to court on December 11 at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court for a continuation of his matter.
The men are accused of breaking into the dwelling house of Antonio Bissoondyal of East Canefield, East Canje on November 2 and stealing one flat screen television set valued at $125,000 and one DVD player valued at $15,000.
According to Prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Sheriff, the men are friends. About 23:30 hours, on the day in question Bissoondyal secured his home and went to bed. He awoke around 06:30 the next morning to find the door of his house open and four louver windows opened. Upon checking he realized that his TV set and DVD player were missing.
A report was made and the police carried out investigations which led to the three being arrested. The television set was also recovered.
The men admitted to the crime. Dhanpat told the court that when he went into the house the door was opened and he took the items. Griffith stated that he went through the window and opened the door.
They were subsequently jailed.
