Dear Sports Editor,
In response to the article which appeared in the Kaieteur News under the caption Andrew ‘Carmichael feels Kashif and Shanghai insults Reg 6’, I wish to use two simple words “ignorance and unfortunate”.
The irony of this article is that Mr Carmichael himself through his utterances is an insult to the very region, its people, the journalist community and by extension the government. He did not argue against Ash Educational Trust football or academic achievement but seems to have a problem with Guyanese children of Private schools participating in the tournament. What absurdity?
The region who he claims to represent should distance itself from Mr C views. Let me inform or rather remind Mr C that Private schools have outperformed Public schools at both the national grade 6 and CXC exams for the last three years. Mr C needs to be pulled out of his misguided position and understand that the Ministry of Education represents all school children, be it Private or Public institutions.
He needs to know that Ash Educational Trust has raised the bar on Reg. 5 CXC performance and is the most successful school at football in Reg. 5.
Let me further inform Mr C that the Kashif and Shanghai tournament is for secondary schools. NATI is not a secondary school. This institution is listed as a post secondary institution and therefore cannot participate.
Finally Mr C must be told or educated to the fact that this tournament is one of quality with guidelines for selection. Imagine the insult on himself and the region when Mr C attempts to use the fact that Region 6 has three towns and its people has supported K&S org over the years as a factor for eligibility. How absurd?
Let me close with the two words ‘ignorance and unfortunate”.
