In what is believed to be an execution attempt, a gunman early yesterday opened fire on a Jamaican businessman at a city liming spot. Up to news time the victim was in a critical condition at a private hospital.
The incident occurred around 01:00hrs in the vicinity of Orange Walk, Bourda.
The businessman, Patrick Forbes, 36, of Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, was shot about five times about his body.
Police, in a statement, said that Forbes was among a group of persons on Orange Walk, when shots were discharged in their direction.
The release further stated that Forbes, who recently purchased a car, was hit to his abdomen and right thigh.
Kaieteur News was told that Forbes, who operates a boutique on Forshaw Street, Georgetown, shares the same house with one of his friends, Kelly, from Jamaica.
“We are like brothers. He does be back and forth from Jamaica to here and in the evenings he does normally go play dominoes at the corner,” Kelly told this publication.
He added that around 19:00hrs on Tuesday, Forbes dropped him home and left to go play dominoes at Orange Walk. That was the last he heard from his friend.
Kaieteur News understands that Forbes was shot some eight times a few years ago and was admitted to a Jamaica hospital.
