In most cases, mothers are happy when they finally deliver their babies. However, this is, unfortunately, not the case of Trinidad-born Neesha Sewchand who suffered extreme discomfort because of the negligence of health workers attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Sewchand, 20, delivered her baby without complications. However, the young mother told Kaieteur News that she experienced more discomfort post pregnancy than she did throughout the entire nine months.
Sewchand’s baby was born on October 18, but to this day she has been experiencing occasional, but severe pain.
She said that last Monday was her worst day ever; the pain became so severe that she collapsed whilst having a bath.
The young mother told Kaieteur News that she attempted to bathe but couldn’t. A little after she stepped into the bath she felt “as if me womb was coming out.”
“A striking pain hit me; it was an extremely strange feeling. I call for me husband and he come so I tell he I feel like me womb coming out, I naturally felt something travelling. I fell and he carry me to the hospital.”
Because the couple resides in Crane, Sewchand was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital on Monday evening for observation.
The mother said that she was fully conscious at the hospital and saw when the doctor took out “a big ball of something looking like cotton from me.”
According to her, the cotton, even though bloody, had different colours. She said that she immediately felt “the difference.”
The family took a picture of the medical chart from the hospital which stated that gauze was removed. It also stated that Sewchand suffered Cervicitis (inflammation of the cervix) which was due to a foreign object in the vagina. The chart also stated that the mother had a discharge.
Kaieteur News understands that medical professionals attached to the West Demerara Regional Hospital told the young mother that the cotton must have been placed there to “help” her, but was just forgotten.
The 20-year-old was placed on Ibuprofen 400mg, Amoxil 500mg, Fiagyl 500mg and Ampicillin 1g. She was also given two injections and told that she can still breast feed.
Sewchand told Kaieteur News yesterday that she was still experiencing slight pain in the back but severe pain in the abdomen.
Her husband, whose only name is Sewchand, told Kaieteur News that he is really worried about his wife. He said that he fears that there are other complications “I hope her blood isn’t contaminated or anything. We went to Balwant Singh to get her blood tested, on Tuesday, but the shoot out thing mek we couldn’t a pass…
Just imagine, in 24 days she got this thing in she. I really hope it ain’t turn out to be more serious than this, cause I don’t know what I would do.”
