His performances over the past three years has been very consistent, but Group 2A champion Mohamed Shairaz Roshandin in an interview with Kaieteur Sport yesterday conceded that he and his Honda Civic are in for a dogfight against the expected large foreign invasion that will be coming for the final leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) which is set for November 24, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Group 2A champion Mohamed Roshandin seen with a chequered flag following one of his victories recently.
Roshandin, who has been among the most dominant drivers in his Division told this newspaper that the car has been performing reliably over the past year and the team is extremely satisfied with its performance to date.
“The car’s engine has been working excellent and we have not had any issue with it so far, but what we’ve done is some modification on the suspension which will allow us to handle the corners much better, while attempting to relieve the car of a few pounds to get it lighter in an effort to get a further edge on our rivals has been a pre-occupation of ours as well,” Roshandin disclosed.
The local speedster who dominated the September Race Meet securing three first places in the Group 2A category said he expects the rivalry to be much different with the inclusion of the Barbadians, Trinidadians and those coming from the USA and Canada.
“The Bajans have reigned supreme in the division over the past two years, but we intend to defeat them this time around, we are working as a team, we are united and we are determined to successfully defend home turf,” Roshandin confidently predicted.
He revealed that so far five cars have confirmed from Barbados, three from Trinidad and Tobago, while USA, Canada and Suriname’s size are not known as yet.
Apart from Roshandin, Team Guyana will also include the Singh’s brothers Chet and Raj, Andre Dhanraj, Shawn Seejattan and John Joseph.
Roshandin added that the team is strong, made up of very good drivers and most of all united and eager to provide the fans with a day of excitement and entertainment.
He reckoned that the Group is perhaps the largest subscribed and fans could very well see as much as twenty cars taking to the starting line.
“I want to urge fans to come out in their numbers with their Guyana flags and support the team, the fans support will be crucial in our quest to wrestle back the title from the Bajans.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism which has been on board for the past three years will once again partner the GMR&SC in an event that has evolved into a major sport tourism attraction.
GT&T, Seaboard Marine, Valvoline, Banks Beer and King’s Jewellery World are the major sponsors for this event.
