Cancer Caribbean, a new cancer services company in the Caribbean region, announced the inaugural Best of ASCO Event in the Caribbean from December 1, next at the Barbados Hilton Hotel.
“Best of ASCO” is a mini-franchise of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference – the largest cancer conference in the world.
Barbados is the first country in the English-speaking Caribbean to host this conference. The two-day conference will be held under the theme: “Building Bridges to Conquer Cancer”.
Medical experts throughout the Caribbean and special guests from the USA and Canada, are among speakers who will present papers at this conference.
West Indian physicians from the within the North American Diaspora will be also be featured at this inaugural cancer conference.
Grenadian-born Dr. Kester Nedd, founder of the JIPA Network, Barbadian Dr. Judith Hurley, a well-respected Breast Oncologist and Clinical Researcher from the University of Miami Health System and Dominican Dr. Sophia George from the University of Toronto are among the presenters.
Other confirmed speakers/presenters are Barbadian Oncologists Dr. Cheryl Alexis and Dr. R.K. Shenoy who will be presenting Best of ASCO topics along with General Surgeon Mr. Ian Lewis and a slew of local and regional physicians in the areas Oncology/ Hematology, Urology, Palliative Care, Gynae-Oncology, Paediatrics and others.
Cancer is a chronic condition and there is a pressing need to improve cancer care in the Caribbean.
Founder of Cancer Caribbean and ASCO 2013 presenter Sarah Louden who will be speaking on the “Evolution of Cancer Care in Developing Countries” is playing her role in tackling cancer in the Caribbean by bringing a special focus to the region through this event and others.
Barbados is a premiere destination in the region and Cancer Caribbean has obtained the exclusive contract to host Best of ASCO for two years; an even larger conference is planned for October 2014 at the Barbados Hilton Hotel. Sponsors, speakers, patient support groups and participants from all specialties of health are all welcome.
