It was a very competitive day of racing as the Jumbo Jet and the Shariff stables scored two wins each when the Bush Lot United Turf Club (BLUTC) in collaboration with the Inshan Bacchus ‘Hard Running’s’ Trucking Service and Nazrudeen “Jumbo Jet ‘Junior’ Mohammed held a successful one day horserace meet at the club’s
entity Sea View Park Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice last Sunday.
Grande de Roja of the Jumbo Jet stable returned to winning ways by easily taking the feature C class and lower 1400M event. Grande De Roja imported from the USA a few years ago and ridden by jockey Colin Ross with a classification of D2, showed that it is still one of the top horses around as it cantered home for the win. Carrying a weigh of 108 pounds the animal led a one two for the Jumbo Jet stable with Got To Go racing in second.
With the experience Ross on the perch, using all his skill to pilot the animal around the course, the racehorse known for its staying power and blistering finishes came up to challenge the front runners early and soon took the lead as they headed for home. There was no stopping Grande de Roja down the homestretch as it cantered home to take the $1M first prize and the Bacchus Trucking Service trophy from Got To Go, Red and Lovely and Damascus Dream.
Flying Baby of the Mohammed ‘Nankoo’ Shariff Stable ridden by Rad Drepaul flew away from its opponents to win the Three year event for West Indies maiden and Guyana Bred horses, claiming the $400,000 and the Phagoo General Store trophy from Sent from Above and Cat Messiah.
The Jumbo Jet stable was on winner’s row in the 1200M event for Two year old West Indies bred horses as Today is My Day, with Colin Ross on the mount, making sure it was its day, shooting down Unsettled, Settling Jet and Shooting Star. The win was worth $300,000 and the Bharrat Sookdeo trophy.
Fresh Again owned and trained by Lakeram Sukdeo and ridden by jockey Randolph Richmond was in a class by itself, battering the field to run away with the F and lower 1400M event, pocketing the $400,000 winner’s money and the Banks DIH trophy ahead of Princess Alicia, Work Force and Captain Crook.
The G3 and lower 1300M race saw another win for the Shariff stable as Damascus Dream with Navin on board taking away the $300,000 winners money and trophy from Top of the Line, Rock Sonia and War Craft.
Jockey Richmond guided Cat Messiah, owned and trained by Ghansham Singh, to the pole position for an easy win in the ‘I’ and lower 1200M race to take the $200,000 prize and the Mohamed Khan trophy from Mary Ann, Sango and Dream Boy.
Savion of the Crawford stable with Yap Drepaul in the saddle took top honours in the J class 1400M event with Dream Boy, Famous Pride and Pixie Fire rounding out the placings.
The K class race was won by Wicked Revenge ridden by Rad Drepaul.
Jockeys Ross, Richmond and Rad Drepaul all scored two win, but Ross was adjudged champion with more placings. They top performers were all presented with accolades compliments of Mr. Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organisers.
The incident free day of racing came off with a bang with over 75 horses taking part with over $7M up for grabs. The police lead by Sergeant Semple was commended for doing a splendid job.
A minute of silence was held for the late horseracing personality and former international horse racing commentator Lalta Deokey.
