Four of Guyana’s most-talented junior track and field prospects, Jevina Straker, Chavez Ageday, Alita Moore
and Stephon James are expected to depart Guyana this week for the United States of America on Athletics Scholarships at ASA College, New York.
Kaieteur Sport understands that the four athletes were accepted into the College and received the requisite visa from the US Embassy here in Guyana to attend the institution where they will most likely train, compete and study as part of their scholarship.
Straker is a triple CARIFTA Games 1500m gold medallist. The CARIFTA Games is the region’s benchmark for junior athletics. Ageday is a notable junior talent while Moore has been the fastest Guyanese woman for the last year and a half with sub 12 times.
James is a consistent Caribbean and South American performer, who is capable of running under 46 seconds in the 400m. The four athletes have been at the top of the chart in their events for the last two years; they represent the future of Guyana’s athletics.
According to their website, ASA College has two centrally-located campuses in Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn with more than 3000 students and 20 programmes. (Edison Jefford)
