Organisers of the one night boxing competition arranged by former national amateur and professional boxing champion, Jeff Roberts and his newly formed Roberts Champion Boxing Gym (RCBG), has been forced to reschedule the event.
The card was scheduled for last night at the Matthew Allen (Stelling Road) in New Amsterdam Berbice, but has been pushed back to 30th November. This was due to circumstances beyond the promoter’s control.
Roberts told the media that at the last moment he was told that he had to get a number of paper work done. He tried desperately, but was unsuccessful.
There are 12 bouts on the card which was expected to feature boxers from RCBG of New Amsterdam and the Rose Hall Jammers boxing gym of Corentyne showing off their skills against fighters from Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Harpy Eagle (HE) and Forgotten Youth Foundation in what was dubbed ‘Berbice verses Georgetown.’
Among some of the boxers that are expected to highlight the activity are the three boxers that represented Guyana at the recently concluded inaugural Junior South American Games in Peru in Flyweight Michael April (52kg), Junior Middleweight Travis Fraser(69kg) and Bantamweight Joel Williamson (56kg) all fighting under the banner of the RCBG. While others like Jamal Eastman, Tyrone Lashley, Keon Williams and Albert Thomas are also expected to perform. Roberts regrets any inconvenience caused. (Samuel Whyte)
