A road accident on the East Bank Demerara (EBD) Public Road early yesterday has resulted in the death of a 64-year-old security guard.
It has been described as gruesome.
Roy Harrilall, of Lot 81 Section Y Diamond New Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was killed while he was on his way home from work on his motorcycle CF 861, around 01:00hrs in the vicinity of Prospect.
Harrilall was taken to the Diamond Hospital and was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The security guard suffered from multiple internal injuries and broken bones. “His entire intestines were exposed. When we carry him to the hospital, all the doctors and nurses were around him,” an eyewitness related.
The motorcar PDD 7385 was proceeding north along the roadway and the motorcyclist was proceeding in the opposite direction when the collision occurred.
A source said that the driver of the motorcar slammed into the motorcyclist.
However, the police in a statement said that the driver of the motorcar was heading to Georgetown and the motorcyclist was proceeding behind.
According to the police statement, the motorcyclist reportedly overtook the car and subsequently collided with the front of the vehicle.
The driver is in custody at the Providence Police Station.
Yesterday, the dead man’s daughter, Roma Harrilall, told Kaieteur News that she was at home when she received the shocking news about her father’s death.
“He was a really nice person and a caring father.”
