His Worship Mayor Hamilton Green celebrates his 79th birth anniversary today and in recognition of this politician and sports stalwart, former National Coach, Lennox Arthur, has organised the Inter Ward/Village knockout football tournament to commemorate ‘Hammy’s’ contribution to the development of local sports.
The action gets underway at 17:00hrs sharp at the Tucville Ground and fans will be entertained with a minimum of 12 matches; the organiser has said that while to date that number is guaranteed several others may also be contested.
When the action gets underway, Bourda will take on North Sophia followed by Wales up against Alberttown. Kuru Kururu will then play Ruimveldt while DeKinderen clash with South Sophia. Bagotville then take on Leopold Street shortly before Plastic City tackle Tiger Bay.
Other matches include Sara Lodge versus Charlotte Street, Goed Fortuin against Berlin, Stewartville versus Meadow Brook, Crane against North East LaPenitence , Uitvlugt versus Newtown Kitty and Tuschen versus Kitty.
The tournament will be played on two additional days, November 19 and 24 and already several sponsors have indicated their support including Ricks and Sari, McCorp, GT&T, Chris Fernandes, Guyana Lottery Company, Eddy Grant, Trophy Stall, Bourda Market, New Thriving Restaurant and Giftland Office Max.
The winning team pockets $100,000 while the runners up receive half that amount.
