The curtains will come down on the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA)-sanctioned Yolo Entertainment ‘Super Sevens’ Basketball competition tomorrow on Burnham Basketball Court, beginning at 3pm.
“The ‘Super Sevens’ format proved to be quite exciting, especially when the colored bonus ball was injected into the game; points scored with that ball were doubled and teams who were in the lead found themselves being defeated through the power of the colored ball,” a release from Yolo Entertainment said.
“Sonic Rebels was one such team, down 41 –46, Collis ‘Forty’ Pluck pulled a three pointer with two seconds remaining in the game. With the points being doubled, Sonics won the game 47-46 and sent Colts ‘B’ packing,” packing the release continued.
It added that the excitement and fun will continue tomorrow with Buxton, Eagles and The West Side Jammers being recalled to join Knights, Colts, Pacesetters, Sonics and the Melanie Patriots to complete the Super Eight, which will decide the champions.
The Bishops High School team that lost their game against Knights will also be back to play the Inter-Guiana Games female gold medal winners and the media basketball team will face off with a GABA Executive Committee.
Clear Waters, Mackeson, Hinds & Statia Financial Services, Creative Jewelery, Precise Printing, The Garage, Harris Paints, Organic Natural Resources Management, HJTV & 94.1 FM and Starr Party Rentals have all supported the ‘Super Sevens’.
First to fourth place finishers are all guaranteed trophies and replicas while special awards will be presented to Basketball greats Eon Andrews and Mark Agard, the release added. It noted that the usual entertaining atmosphere will also remain in place.
“All we wanted was for the ‘ballers’ and fans to come out; they did that and we had a great time of sportainment and for that my team is extremely grateful,” Yolo Entertainment’s Kirk ‘Chow Pow’ Jardine said, adding it was the beginning of greater things to come.
