Guyana Cup 3 bowls off today
Ayube, Hardyal confident of Regal chances

Having won the recently concluded Georgetown Softball Cricket League 12\12 tournament Regal XI will be going all out to win the third annual Guyana Softball Cup 3 when the tournament bowls off today at several venues across Demerara. Mohamed Ayube who will lead Regal XI in the open category feels his team’s chances are very good.

Speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday Ayube said the presence of some of the leading players locally in his team makes them one of the favourites to win the competition. “Chein Gittens, Richard Latiff and Safraz Esau are our leading batsmen, they are proven match winners. Patrick Rooplall, Privnauth Motilall and Khalid Haslim will lead us in the bowling department so we have a very all round team”, he said.
“I know we will have stiff competition especially from Trophy Stall, Wolf’s Warriors and the defending champions New York All Stars, but our team spirit is high and the guys are capable of holding their own in any given situation”, added Ayube.
Meanwhile, captain of Regal Masters Anil Hardyal believes his team has the fire power to be successful in the over-45 division. Hardyal informed that his players have been training very hard for this tournament. “We did some extra work and the players are raring to go”, he added.
Hardyal stated they will take every game seriously and will play hard cricket regardless of which team they face. “To be successful you have to beat the best. So we will not underestimate any team”, he said.
Raymond Harper, Lance Adams, Ryan Singh, Lynden Lyght and Tony Ameerally are some of the players to look forward to.
The tournament, which will conclude on November 10 at GCC, will see 24 teams comprising 6 from New York, 2 from Florida, 2 from Canada and 14 from Guyana battling for supremacy; teams are being divided into two categories, the open male and the Masters over-45 divisions. The victorious team in the open male will take home a trophy and $800,000 and the runner will pocket a trophy and $200,000. The winning team in the Masters division will receive a trophy and $600,000 and the runner up a trophy and $150,000.

Admission to the venues for the preliminary games will be free of cost, while a fee of $500 will be charged for the finals. The Guyana Softball Cup 3 is being sponsored by Survival, GT&T, Rohan Auto Spares, Top Branz, Guyana Beverage Company, Motor Trend, Nauth Motor Spares, Steve’s Jewellery, Clear Waters, Trophy Stall, Mike’s Pharmacy, Metro and Rubis Service Station of Bel Air.
