Falcon House won the Morgan’s Learning Centre annual inter-house track and field competition on Monday at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary. Falcon amassed 207 points to win the competition ahead of Toucan House (171 points), Macaw House (170 points) and Raven House (104 points) respectively.
Trophy Stall, Nestle Milo, Banks DIH and Nicky’s Natural Fruit Juices & Snackette were the sponsors of the event. President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), Aubrey Hutson declared the track championships open.
Hutson told the students that sports is important to their development since it helps them become well-rounded individuals and that Morgan’s Learning Centre initiative which is the brainchild of Sir Morgan, should be hailed as a positive one.
Hutson believed that success is a mixture of academics and athletics and being able to manage the two while emphasising on time management. The athletes all had spirited performances with Tasnica Lovell and Lloyd Pollard being declared Champion Girl and Champion Boy, both from Falcon House.
The Runners-up Male and Female Champs were Rommel Legall and Imani Butcher, both of the Macaw House. Lovell won the Girls Under-18 1500m, 400m, 200m and 100m while Butcher won the Girls U-14 400m, 200m and 100m.
Pollard won the U-18 400m, placed second in U-18 200m, U-18 and U-20 100m while Legall won the U-18 200m,U-18 and U-20 100m.
There were also male and female parents race, and the fascinating ‘race of the day’ that had all the students and spectators on the edge of their seats was the male teachers of Morgan’s Learning Centre 100m race, which included Sir Morgan.
The Morgan Learning Centre said in a release yesterday that academics and sports are included in their comprehensive curriculum.
