The nation’s top cyclists are currently engaged in intense training and the rivalry is expected to be fierce when the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) 3 days, 7th Annual ‘Ride for Life’ 5 Stage Cycle Road Race pedals off on November 14 next.
Apart from winning the race, cyclists will also have their eyes on the timings in the respective categories with a desire to eclipse them and leave their mark on the event. Last year’s senior cyclist, Jaimal Ramerez, dominated his category and has set a record of 9:46:51secs, while Paul DeNobrega copped the honours in the junior category in a time of 9:57:01secs. Kennard Lovell carted off the honours in the veteran category in 10:15:24secs.
Activities get underway next Thursday at 07:30hrs when the race pedals off from the Corriverton Police Station for the 46.6 miles (75Km) journey to New Amsterdam. Later that afternoon, the riders will convene at 14:00hrs for the second leg, over 60.4Miles (96Km), from Rosignol to Carifesta Avenue.
The race heats up on Friday, November 15 when the riders pedal off from Wales Police Station at 09:00 hrs and proceed to Bushy Park EBE for another 35 Miles (56Km) journey.
After a good night’s rest, the riders will once again take to the saddle on Saturday, November 16 at 07:30hrs from Supenaam, also on the Essequibo Coast, proceed to Charity before returning to Suddie. This leg of the race covers some 67 Miles (107.05Km). The final leg of the race, 64.6 miles (103.3km) gets underway on Sunday, November 17 from Kara Kara to Homestretch Avenue.
Transportation for cyclists and officials leave the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Main Street at 12:30hrs on Wednesday, November 13, for Corriverton. Cyclists are reminded that registration closes on Monday, November 11 and National Cycling Coach, Hassan Mohamed may be reached at his Middle Street office during normal working hours to complete this process.
