The Chico Kashif and Shanghai Schools football tournament was yesterday given a major injection of sponsorship from Bushy Park Sawmills Inc. of Parika. The principals of that organisation confirmed the major sponsorship for the event, which will cover the four participating schools from the West of Demerara, part sponsorship of the Waramadong Secondary school and covering the ticket costs for two days of the event so kids can enter the venues

free for those two days.
Yesterday Kashif Muhammad, part of the organising duo, informed the media that they are happy with the contribution from Bushy Park Sawmills. He disclosed that the budget for hosting this event is in the vicinity of $27M. Muhammad pointed out that to bring Waramadong from Region 7 and house them is costing around $3M and the Bushy park Sawmills is covering that cost in part.
The main portion of the sponsorship will see the sawmill being the sole sponsor for the four teams from the West Demerara; Stewartville, Uitvlugt, Patentia and Leonora; providing full kit for their participation.
Matches are slated for the Westside at Den Amstel and one of the days in Georgetown and Bushy Park has bought tickets so all the children attending can enter the venues free on the days which will be specified. Muhammad noted that with the tournament not in the senior ranks and attracting the kind of gates and sponsorship, it is heartening for Bushy Park Sawmills to ensure a large number of children be able to watch the games free for those two days.
General Manager Patty Ramlall handed over the sponsorship to a representative of the Uitvlugt Secondary School, Shevon Monchoir, in the presence of students Shakeel Mounter and Anthony Jacobs. The company, who has supported sports in the past, is pleased to support this youth tournament.
The tournament starts December 8 and the K&S Organisation will be holding a coaching seminar for the 24 schools involved. The seminar is fixed for next week Wednesday and Thursday.
Jamaal Shabaaz, former Golden Jaguars Coach, will headline the resource personnel. He will be ably assisted by Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover and Ivan Persaud. Certificates of participation will be handed out to the participants at the conclusion.
The prizes on offer are: $1.2M, $750,000, $500,000 and $250,000 for the top four teams. 75% of those monies will go to a project at the respective schools, while the remaining 25% will go in the form of gift vouchers, redeemable as several stores around the city, to the players for school supplies and or sports gear.
Matches will commence at 2:00pm and 4:00pm in the preliminary phase, while in the later stage, games will be played from 4:00pm and 6:00pm. The final is set for January 1, 2014. Transportation will be provided by the organisors to take the players home after games.
