Scouts celebrate 104th anniversary

The Scout Association of Guyana (SAG) over the weekend held a series of activities in observance of its 104th anniversary.
This year the association honoured long-serving members and those who have made sterling contributions to the growth and development of scouting in Guyana and the world.
Speaking at a ceremony held at SAG Headquarters in Woolford Avenue on Saturday, Chief Scout, Ramsay Ali, told hundreds of scouts gathered for the annual anniversary camp, rally and games that their commitment and contribution to the association have played a major role in its expansion across the country.
He reminded them that scouting was not only about learning special skills and outdoor survival techniques but adapting a different mindset and way of life.
The association honoured more than 19 scouts for their service and contribution to scouting in Guyana, and in the case of SAG’s Chief Commissioner, Zaida Joaquin, the world. Joaquin recently became a committee member on the Inter American Scout Committee – World Scout Bureau – Inter American Region.
Recognition and awards were given for good service, meritorious service, long service and meritorious action.
The more than 300 scouts who gathered at SAG headquarters over the weekend took part in a rally through the streets of Georgetown on Saturday then competed with each other in a series of games. The association also held its annual ‘BBQ and Lime’ where members of the public took full advantage of the tasty treats while being entertained by the games.
