DEAR EDITOR,
I applaud the three young professional journalists that have taken a stand by resigning in support of high ethical journalism standards. Most if not all of your readers are familiar with the reasons these persons tendered their resignation; they felt uncomfortable engaging in gutter journalism which apparently they were asked to do, specifically as it relates to Mr. Glenn Lall.
The majority of Guyanese public and other persons are aware the TVG and Guyana Times are both owned by Mr. Ranjsinghi ‘Bobby’ Ramroop – a confidant of the former President, Bharrat Jagdeo. We also know that Kaieteur News has done a fantastic job presenting related facts about corrupt, suspicious and illegal business acquisitions and practices. These practices happened under and/or were facilitated by the former administration; interestingly many persons that worked in that administration are still employed by the State.
We are also aware that in response to publishing their findings, Guyana Times and TVG began publishing fictitious stories about Mr. Lall in an attempt to smear his character and stop the good work he has been doing to expose corruption. Clearly the People’s Progressive Party propaganda machinery is at work here and clearly the link between TVG, Guyana Times, former President Jagdeo and his confidant Mr. Ranjsinghi ‘Bobby’ Ramroop has become more evident as the latter uses TVG and Guyana Times as a mouthpiece for the People’s Progressive Party. What is also clear for all to observe is that Mr. Ranjsinghi ‘Bobby’ Ramroop has not offered one shred of evidence in support of clearing his name.
Shame on the Government of Guyana and former President Bharrat Jagdeo for treating the citizens of Guyana which so much contempt; to think that we are so stupid we cannot see what’s happening and who are involved. Shame on TVG and Guyana Times for engaging in narrow-minded gutter journalism.
I also encourage the journalists that resigned to issue a joint statement to the electronic and print press in and outside of Guyana. Thank you for your courage, bravery and foresight, Guyana needs more young professionals like you!!!
