Sudesh Fitzgerald and Marilyn Adams won the Men’s and Ladies categories of the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC)/Trophy Stall-sponsored DARTS Tournament which was played recently, at MSC.
Apart from the Men’s Singles triumph, Fitzgerald then teamed up with Melissa Smart to capture the Doubles crown.
Luck of the Draw Doubles
In the luck of the draw doubles, team L. Butcher and D. Correia defeated S. Hyles and J. Holligan 2/0 in the quarter finals, before going up against S. Fitzgerald and M. Smart in the semi-finals who had defeated L. Rambarose and N. Seetaram 2/1 in their quarter-final matchup.
M. Persaud and C. France defeated the pair M. Adams and S. Greene 2/1 in their quarter finals to set up a semi-final showdown against M. Correia and L. Ramirez-Merlano who eliminated the pair of A. Lachman and M. Yaw in the last quarter finals.
Fitzgerald and Smart won the first semi-finals 2/0 against L. Butcher and D. Correia and met the duo of with C. France and Mark Persaud who won the other semi-final against M. Correia and L. Ramirez-Merlano 2/1.
In the final, Fitzgerald and Smart came out victorious, winning two (2/0) straight in a best out of 3 games against Persaud and France.
Women’s Singles
Coming out from a long break, Marilyn Adams came out victorious playing her first G.D.A. endorsed tournament for the year. She defeated top female competitors like Shondell Hyles and Mary Correia. She defeated Ms. Correia 2/1 in the first semi-final, while. Hyles beat Smart 2/0 in their semi-final.
Hyles defeated Adams in the first game of the final, before Adams came back hard leveling the score 1/1.
Adams then won the deciding match, checking out double 17 and winning the female singles 2/1.
Men’s Singles
Sudesh Ftzgerald came out champ in the Men’s Singles, only losing one leg to S. Greene in the best of five final.
Fitzgerald defeated A. Lachman in the quarter final 2/0, moving on to face L. Butcher in the semi-final, winning again 2/0 and also scored the shortest checkout (120), while Sherwyn Greene defeated M. Persaud 2/1 in the other semi-final.
Fitzgerald finished the first leg checking out with double 20. He then finished the second leg with 17 darts starting with 180 points on his first throw and checking out with double 7. Fitzgerald lost the third game to Greene after miscalculating the finish (with a 110 checkout Fitzgerald played 20, triple 20 and then shoots for bull instead of double 15), leaving Greene to finish the game with double 20. Sudesh Fitzgerald finished the forth leg and winning the tournament with another 17 darts checkout; he shot 125, 60, 100, 100, 40, and then checked out with triple 20, double 8.
