Paul De Nobrega is set to defend his Diamond Mineral Water 50-mile Road Race title on Sunday when the 14th edition of the race comes off on the West Demerara road way.
The Unattached rider has been enjoying a reasonable year so far but will be hard pressed to retain the title given the current form of Alonzo Greaves, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams, both of Roraima Bikers Club and Geron Williams (Continental Cycle Club) among others.
Race time on Sunday is 08:00hrs, moving off from the Wales Police Station, West Bank Demerara proceeding to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo before returning to Scoonorde, just before the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish.
Veterans, mountain bike and female riders will turn back at the Uitvlugt Community Centre. Eight primes will be up for the taking during the course of the race; the top six seniors, three juniors, veterans, mountain bike, females and the first Over-60 rider will all receive prizes.
De Nobrega’s winning time last year was Two Hours Two minutes 18 Seconds. Junior Niles will also be defending the veteran title as will mountain biker Julio Melville. A New junior champion will be crowned since last year’s winner; De Nobrega has since graduated to the seniors ranks.
