It has once served as a playfield where most of the athletes of the North Ruimveldt Multilateral School have honed their skills. Over the years, the area was converted into a dumpsite and when authorities closed the venue a few years later to such activities, an unsightly mass of bushes has overtaken the field thus depriving the students of a place for their recreational activities.
Now, the executive and members of the North Ruimveldt Multilateral School Old Students Association (NRMSOSA) have decided to restore the field to an acceptable state where the students of the school may resume sports and other extra-curricular activities.
The group recently held a function dubbed ‘Back in Time Lime’ at the Loft Disco to raise funds for the project following which, the executive committee met last Sunday evening and selected a committee to oversee activities utilizing a portion of the funds accrued from the function.

Subsequently, the team has solicited the services of the Guyana Prison Service and after engaging Superintendent, Carl Graham, a deal was worked out and a team of inmates have undertaken the first phase which entails the removal of the lighter foliage with plans to eventually tackle the denser undergrowth over the next few weeks.
Former boxing champion and journalist, Michael Benjamin is a former student of the school and is the President of the NRMSOSA. Yesterday afternoon, he and Treasurer, Arthur Gibbs, visited the site to observe the group of inmates at work.
Both of the executives were delighted that the project was finally started and expressed the hope that they receive the requisite assistance towards its completion.
Already, Mr. Benjamin has spoken with several influential businessmen who are excited with the project and have pledged their support. Several members of the executive committee are currently working on a project document that enwraps the cost and other modalities of the project.
Mr. Gibbs had been an integral part of the Association with more than a working knowledge of the inner works while Mr. Benjamin has also served in the capacity of PRO and is also enthusiastic that this team of executives could make a big difference.
Other members include Andrea Hunter (Vice President), Eshelle Cambridge (Secretary) and Lincoln Callender (PRO). The Committee Members are Dexter Wyles, Ricardo Manbodh, Terrence Mentore, Rawle Carter and Ivor Thompson.
