Joshua House with a total of 97 points emerged as the champion house when the Guyana Missionary Baptist Church (GMBC) held their inter house sports on Monday last at eth Saint Stanislaus Ground, Carifesta Avenue.
In a thrilling end to the day’s activity which was held in blazing sunshine, Joshua House blazed past Esther House (93) points to win the overall accolade and bragging rights for the next year. Esther House had looked poised for victory but Joshua dug deep in the final races to edge their way to top honours.
Moses House had to settle for third place with 84 points while Sarah House brought up the rear on 68 points.
The day’s activity commenced with a clourful march-past with the competing houses and it was from that juncture that the rivalry commenced as the respective houses sought to outdo each other as they chanted vociferously.
Commenting on the success of the activity, GMBC Assistant Superintendant/Pastor Colleen Clarke-Anthony said it was a resounding success and it will be held annually.
“The aim of hosting an activity such as this is to have fellowship out of the walls of the “Church”, to foster relationship with the other groups and for families to have time together, while enjoying clean fun. All of which was achieved with God’s help.”
Buns eating and lime and spoon races are formed part of the action and was well received by the members which came from Long Creek, Yarrowkabra, Kuru Kururu (M.L Wilson), Campbellville (Mt. Zion) and Calvary (BV).
Leaders of the respective houses were Brother Lauren Murray (Joshua), Sister Louise Reid (Sarah), Brother Olson Abrams (Esther) and Sister Sherriann Profitt (Moses).
