The Mayor Hamilton Green 79th Birthday 7-a-side Inter-Ward/Village Football tournament is now a three day affair starting November 10 at the Tucville Ground. That’s the word from Coordinator Lennox Arthur. Games are set for November 10, continue on November 17 and the action concludes on November 24 at the same venue.
The action will open at 3:00pm on Sunday November 10 with the preliminary phase before the winners advance to the respective quarterfinals, then semifinals and final. This the 32nd year of the Mayor’s birthday football tourney, will see twelve matches in the preliminary phase.
Bourda play North Sophia, Wales versus Alberttown, Kuru Kururu tackle East Ruimveldt, De Kinderen oppose South Sophia, Leopold Street battle Bagotville, Plastic City oppose Tiger Bay, Sara Lodge collide with Charlotte Street, Stewartville tangle with Meadowbrook, Berlin face Goed Fortuin, North East Lap Penitence clash with Crane, Kitty battle Tuschen and Uitvlugt take on Newtown Kitty.
The winners advance to faceoff the following Sunday in the playoff, quarterfinal and semifinal games. The final will be contested on Sunday November 24 at Tucville from 10:30pm after several preliminary matches.
A number of exciting players are scheduled to be on show during the competition. Among them are Shemroy Arthur of North Sophia, Joshua Kamal of South Sophia, Jamal Harvey of Uitvlugt and Delon Cadogan representing Alberttown.
Several corporate entities and persons have lent their support to the event so far. Among them are GT&T, MACORP, Chris Fernandes, Ricks and Sari, who will give hampers of their products to the winners and runner-up, Guyana Lottery Company, New Thriving Restaurant, Eddie Grant and Giftland Office Max.
Fans are encouraged to come out and enjoy three days of action packed 7-a-side football.
The winner collects $100,000 and the Trophy Stall Trophy donated by Ramesh Sunich, with the runner-up claiming $50,000 and the Ricks and Sari Trophy. Both teams also collect hampers from Ricks and Sari.
The 7-a-side tourney will see games of 20 minutes duration, that’s two halves of 10 minutes, being contested. Three substitutions will be allowed per team during matches with penalties determining a winner in the event of a stalemate.
